JAMES HENRY JR
PRODUCER | SONGWRITER
Pete Harper - known professionally as James Henry Jr - is a California based producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.
A graduate of the eclectic indie scene of the mid-aughts, Harper’s eponymous band Harper Blynn stepped onto the stage playing Classic Rock and Blues at the Red Lion on Bleecker in the West Village. Their shows quickly generated a legion of buzz, leading to a residency at LES institution the Living Room (extended for an eventual six months until the shows were packed out the door), a sold out Bowery Ballroom, and a record with David Kahne.
The band toured with the likes of Sara Bareilles, One Republic, Ingrid Michaelson, Cary Brothers, Greg Laswell, and more, and Time Out New York once wrote, "If pop hooks were Monopoly money, [Harper Blynn] would be buying hotels on Park Place by now."
But alas, the Park Place mortgage came due and Harper headed west, settling in Los Angeles and discovering a new passion in helping both developing and established artists find their musical North Star. Harper has written with and/or produced artists including Madison Cunningham, Theo Katzman, Hand Habits, Courtney Marie Andrews, Nick Thune, Clara Nova (Sydney Wayser), Matt Simons, and Sara Bareilles (Gold-certified “I Choose You”), amongst others, and is a frequent guest and collaborator of The Watkins Family Hour at Largo, along with folks like Jackson Browne, John C Reilly, and T Bone Burnett. Harper splits his time between LA, Lake Arrowhead and NYC. His musical podcast Before Your Very Ears - cohosted by Sean Watkins – is airing now.
